I created a logo and an animation for Gold Flake, a bakery shop mainly selling croissants. The name was inspired by the visual of a freshly baked croissant, which is crispy, golden, and flaky. The target audience is teenagers and young adults who enjoy freshly baked croissants. I aimed to use colours and graphics that appeal to this demographic, grabbing their attention and enticing them to visit the store. The final design reflects the bakery's warm and inviting atmosphere, making it a memorable brand for croissant lovers.
I created the logo and other pieces in Illustrator, then imported them into After Effects for animation. The short animation consists of four main parts, which I pre-composed to simplify the composition. For the butter section, I used trim paths to make it appear as if the butter is slipping in the animation. Since making a croissant involves a lot of butter in the batter, I thought it would be interesting to include this element. Additionally, I used a luma matte to make the text disappear, ensuring smooth transitions.
I had a few ideas for the logo and chose the simplest design with a subtle angle incorporating the croissant. The original name was "The Flake," but I found it too simple, so I changed it to "Gold Flake" after finalizing the logo. For the storyboard, I made a slight adjustment to the second scene, but it still follows the same steps in the animation. Since the brand's focus is on croissants, I aimed to incorporate as many croissant elements as possible into the animation to highlight the logo effectively. I aimed to create a cohesive look that reflects the essence of Gold Flake and captures the essence of the bakery’s identity.
